Description:
The SCI Adirondack-Catskill Chapter Young Hunter Award was created to introduce young people to the joys of hunting and the outdoors. It is our young people that will carry on to promote the sport of hunting and SCI believes it is important to encourage and support their efforts.
Criteria:
· The candidates must have been younger than 18 at the time of his or her achievement and 14 or older when receiving the award.
· The application must be received within 12 month of the candidate’s accomplishments, or most recent accomplishment if there were more than one.
· The candidates need not be related to an SCI member.
· The award may be given for a variety of accomplishments or for a single action. Examples of accomplishments to be considered are trophies collected, a special animal taken without assistance, special conservation efforts or unusual, heroic deeds related to hunting.
· A youth can be nominated prior to 14 but cannot actually receive the award until reaching 14.
Nomination Process:
Any member of Adirondack-Catskill SCI may nominate a young hunter in writing. Attached to that nomination, the nominee should include a letter describing their achievements in hunting, conservation and education. A youth may receive an award only once. Once nominated the youth will remain a candidate until the age of 18 or until he or she receives the award. Entries may be submitted by mail or faxed to:

Deadline and Awards Period:
All nominations must be received by February 1st annually to be considered for the following annual banquet. The recipient is selected by March 1st of each year. Notification of the recipient will be made by mail by the Young Hunter Committee.
Selection Process:
Candidates must update their portfolio each year with current information on hunting and other projects. The recipients of this award are selected by the Board of Directors and Young Hunter Committee. If a candidate is nominated by a member of the Board of Directors or Young Hunter Committee, that member will recuse him/herself from the selection process.
Award Presentation:
A special plaque is presented annually at the Adirondack-Catskill SCI Banquet to the recipient. In addition, the Young Hunter will be awarded a paid eight-day session, including round trip airfare, to the American Wilderness Leadership School Program near Jackson, Wyoming.
